Different is good, especially for the students at Ogden Technical High School (OTECH), where a unique integrated learning environment provides a wealth of diverse real-world educational opportunities. NWL Architects collaborated with the Ogden School District and OWTC to create a dynamic learning experience for students that fosters deeper engagement and brighter futures.
OTECH shares a campus with the Ogden-Weber Technical College (OWTC), which allows OTECH students to gain professional certification and specialized skills at the college while attending classes on the A/B schedule at OTECH. OTECH employs a Personalized Competence-Based Learning (PCBL) curriculum, which is a flexible educational approach designed around the needs and abilities of each individual student. The school’s adaptable layout was designed to accommodate this rigorous curriculum while integrating the latest in 21st-century technology and teaching tools to fully optimize the learning experience. The school features different-sized classrooms to accommodate groups of all sizes and diverse teaching and learning styles. The school was also thoughtfully equipped with open flexible spaces that can be adapted to suit evolving educational needs.
OTECH's distinctive design elements not only facilitate inspired learning, but also serve to visually differentiate the school from the more traditional buildings on the OWTC campus, further representing the school’s progressive vision. Vertical charcoal metal panels complement warm grey masonry, while clear glass and dark spandrel windows lend a modern aesthetic to the building. The school’s strategic placement offers stunning views of nearby Mt. Ben Lomond in a campus setting that is truly inspiring. With its innovative and thoughtful design, OTECH allows students to thrive in a cutting-edge learning environment while applying their knowledge in a hands-on, real-world context.
