Description

A historically significant site in Holladay, Utah, along Big Cottonwood Creek, is the 8-acre Knudsen Nature Park. Knudsen Corners has historically been the site of a mill and summer camp near the base of Big Cottonwood Canyon. Big Cottonwood Creek runs through the park, and the creek bank has been stabilized to feature footbridges and viewing areas along its course. Historic oak groves are preserved and enhanced with picnic sites and relaxation areas. The park also provides a connection to an improved bike route equipped with bicycle workstations for bike repair. Regional trail connections to Big Cottonwood Trail, Heughs Canyon, and the Bonneville Shoreline Trail are continued within the park. A nature-themed playground and a historic-themed water pump feature enhance the historic interpretive signs that dot the park. NWL Architects designed the pavilion structures in a design/build partnership with Hughes Construction Company. The team shared concepts and project updates with the community through a city-hosted project web page.
