NWL Architects provided comprehensive architectural services for the 93,539-square-foot Layton Utah Temple, a landmark sacred structure dedicated in June 2024. The temple's design is heavily influenced by the Art Nouveau style, drawing inspiration from the agricultural heritage of the Layton area with motifs of fruit trees, seedlings, and blossoms. Characterized by two attached end spires and cascading arched windows, the exterior is clad in elegant precast concrete panels. A key feature is the vibrant exterior art glass, co-designed by NWL, which uses rich, saturated colors to depict stylized floral patterns that are brilliantly illuminated at night.
The Art Nouveau theme and agrarian motifs are seamlessly carried into the temple’s interior, creating a cohesive and reverent atmosphere. Rich African Anigre wood is used for paneling and detailed millwork, complemented by custom decorative painting, gold leaf accents, and inlaid stone flooring. The design incorporates several unique elements, including an antique Tiffany art glass window and custom-designed bronze hardware. NWL designed the intricate decorative carvings found in the sealing and celestial rooms in collaboration with specialist artisans, contributing to a harmonious design that provides a warm and inspiring experience.
