Faced with a small urban site and in need of a new structure, the Provo City School District asked Naylor Wentworth Lund to design a replacement for the existing Timpanogos Elementary School. Working with the district, NWL developed a new three story elementary school that rises along 500 West, between 400 and 500 South. The new Timpanogos Elementary School houses 30 classroom spaces including three kindergarten rooms. Nestled in a xerascaped garden, this contemporary styled school creates a very distinct facade, yet sits comfortably within its context along busy 500 West in Provo, Utah. The building envelope consists of a well insulated load bearing masonry wall system. It serves as a durable, long lasting and easy to maintain exterior skin. The abundance of windows allows all teaching stations to be flooded with natural light, enhancing the educational learning environment.
